NC/SC WBC Differences
Which Location? San Diego or North County Chapter?
There are two WBC locations/courses within San Diego County and this website is for the San Diego WBC. Both courses are sections of the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club and are very similar. The major differences between the two courses/organizations are:
Class Location
The San Diego WBC meets in UTC at the JCC (near I-5 and I-805), the North County WBC meets at the San Pasqual High School in Escondido (near North County Fair).
Class Size
The San Diego WBC is capped at about 250 students,
the North County is usually between 70-100 students.
Outing Selection
With more students and leaders the San Diego Course typically has 15-20 trips to choose for each outing weekend, the North County Course has 5-8 selections to choose from.
Class 'Feel'
The North County Course has a more intimate class size.
With about 250 students the San Diego Course is a great way to meet people.
Outing Weekends
Outings have been coordinated between the courses to take place on alternate weekends to ease demand on equipment and outing locations.
Snow Camp
3 Days in Mammoth via chartered bus for the San Diego WBC, 2 days at San Jacinto for North County. There is an additional fee for the bus charter and continental breakfast relating to the Mammoth trip.
Age Requirements
18+ for San Diego WBC, 14 and 9th grade for North County.
Price
The San Diego Course is a little more expensive due to the 'extras' in the course.
Registration
The San Diego Course offers online registration with a discount. The North County Course has downloadable forms to print which you can bring to the first night of class- filling out the forms before class will allow you to be first in line for registration.
End FAQ
Unfortunately due to the class dates you have to pick one course or the other. The organizations are separate and you cannot switch class sessions or outings between the two courses to make up for anything you missed.
If the North County Course is more convenient for you, you can find their information at http://sandiego.sierraclub.org/wbc/nc.
